The perfect outfit is very hard to find, especially when you are trying not to be ripped off. Many times, we end up spending money on a poorly made garment, which starts looking cheap only after one wear. Fashion keeps changing, but the quality is forever. Following are some tips that will help you gauge if a garment is well made or not:
1. Check the Fabric Quality
If the quality of the fabric used in the making of a dress is good, the outfit will look well made. You can easily check the quality of the fabric by touching it. If you are familiar with the feel of different kinds of fabrics, you will be able to assess if the fabric used is of high or low quality. The thickness of the fabric is usually a good sign to check for; a good quality fabric will be neither too sheer nor too stiff or thick. It will have a nice fall that accentuates the cut of the garment.
2. Examine the Stitching
If you want to check if a garment is well made, you need to check its seams. The stitching together of the fabric is a tell-tale sign of its quality. Expert stitches can easily be spotted with more stitches per inch, straight lines and same coloured thread (until the contrasting thread is in the design element). The seams of a well-tailored garment will always be straight, flat and stitched with the exact same coloured thread as the garment. Check to see if there is any gap between the seams. Gaps appear when the stitches per inch are fewer, and this is a sign of poorly made clothes.
3. Check the Zippers and Buttons
The zippers and buttons of well-made clothes are always neat and tidy. The zippers should always lie flat and be covered unless a revealed zip is part of the design. The zip should easily open and close without any snags. One of the things evident in well-made clothes is how neat the buttonholes are and how tightly the buttons have been stitched on. The thread used to make the buttonholes and stitch the buttons into place should also be of the same colour as the garment.
4. Price of the Garment
When you try on a dress which is well made and your size, it will sit perfectly on your frame. A well-made garment will be made from ample fabric, which will allow the cut to be just right and the fall to be graceful. The cost of a well-tailored outfit will be higher than that of poorly made garments. This is why you are ready to spend money on buying expensive clothes when there is a special occasion like a wedding or a job interview etc. Quality is priced slightly higher. But you don’t always have to spend a fortune on well-made outfits. You can always find good deals and pair it with an affordable handmade designer handbag, and you will look like a million bucks!
